Goodness

G is for the Goodness of God

Definition-  the quality of being good; uprightness; moral excellence;

What does the Bible Say?

According to the Bible God alone is good and all that is good comes from God. Here are some of the Scriptures we will focus on today.
Mark 10:18 Why do you call me good? Jesus answered. No one is good—except God alone.
James 1:17 Every good thing bestowed and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation, or shifting shadow
Matthew 19:16 And behold, one came to Him and said,Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life? And He said to him,Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is [only] One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.
Nahum 1:7 The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knoweth them that trust in Him"
Romans 3:9-12  What shall we conclude then? Do we have any advantage? Not at all! For we have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under the power of sin.  As it is written: There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away; they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.
Exodus 33:19 And the Lord said, I will make all my goodness pass before your face, and I will proclaim the Lord by name before you; I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, I will show mercy to whom I will show mercy.
Psalm 52:1 The goodness of God endures continually.

Personally....

There is much I could say in regards to the Goodness of God. But the ultimate expression of God's goodness towards us is sending His Son.  Everyday I fall short and everyday I cling to the Cross of Christ. Here is a quote from Charles Spurgeon that says it well.

When others behave badly to us, it should only stir us up the more heartily to give thanks unto the Lord, because He is good; and when we ourselves are conscious that we are far from being good, we should only the more reverently bless Him that He is good. We must never tolerate an instant’s unbelief as to the goodness of the Lord; whatever else may be questioned, this is absolutely certain, that Jehovah is good; His dispensations may vary, but His nature is always the same. (C. H. Spurgeon)

Interesting how my shortcomings ALWAYS remind me of God's goodness. Even when I fall short, He doesn't and thankfully He doesn't hold our failings against us but forgives us :D
